Hopi Globular pot, Sikyatki Revival design with corrugated band, 1930s. This pot is finely polished with a nice patina and careful painting. Note that alternate panels show a version of the Zuni (and Polacca Ware) “rain bird” design (as in 1992-04 and 1994-14) while the other two panels display the Hopi Sikyatki Revival bird design. Robert Gallegos dated the piece as “1930,” an estimate supported by the caption on a similar corrugated-band Hano Polychrome pot (#12724) in the Arizona State Museum (1990) exhibit “The Yellow Ware Road.” [Photo of the “Yellow Ware Road” pot on file.]

Purchase History:
Purchased on 5/27/94 from Robert Gallegos, in Albuquerque, NM. Robert Gallegos had this pot on consignment from another dealer who had purchased it from a third dealer about a year earlier. There is absolutely no history on the piece.
