2009-11 Shallow Bowl – White Slip with Zuni Rainbird Interior Design

Object ID:
2009-11

Artist:
Poolie

Dimensions:
1.689” h X 7.063” w

Poolie was one of the “fine potters” mentioned by Katharine Bartlett, 1936:96 in an article about Hopi pottery. Poolie’s pottery was also used by Harold Colton to survey firing temperatures (1951:75).

The design of 2009-11 is quite similar to 1997-07 and reflects a traditional Zuni/Polacca ware design (see 1994-14) that was generally displaced by Sikyatki Revival pottery.

Purchase History:
Purchased on 6/13/09 on eBay from Mikio Akagi of Huntley, IL. “I bought it at the American Indian Center in Chicago around 1968,” he wrote.
