Object ID:
2011-08

Artist:
James Garcia Nampeyo

Dimensions:
5.3125” h X 7.6875” w

The designs on this jar are taken directly from a jar Nampeyo made about 1912-1915 and now in the collection of the Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa, OK, cat. #5437.4396 (Kramer, 1996:151).

Kramer also reproduces a 1913 photograph by Joseph K. Dixon that includes a pot (the Gilcrease pot?) showing the two design motifs on 2011-08 (1996:112) Apparently these two motifs were often used together (1996:187). Kramer shows a jar by Nampeyo with the same circular design (1996:157). The circular motif in 2011-08 was also drawn by Nampeyo on a bowl shown in the Blair’s book (1999: color fig. 2.31A).
